Barroso: Climate change needs decisive action

Tuesday, 22 January 2008
The issue of climate change requires decisive action, the president of the European Commission (EC) has announced.

Jos Manuel Duro Barroso spoke on the issue earlier this week (January 21) in London at the Lehman Brothers' offices.

He admitted there was a stronger global consensus than ever before on the need to deal with global warming.

Barrosso added: "But we cannot just talk about the importance of this issue. Public opinion demands that we take decisive action."

Business needed to be seen as an important part of the solution also, he continued.

Barrosso was talking ahead of the EC's climate change plans, which are to be released on Wednesday January 22.
